If you are comparing legal fees you need to focus on the fine print, which unfortunately at other firms shows up on your first invoice. When you hire the Natori Law Office LLLC you pay our hourly rate, and some third party costs (such as messenger fees, postage, outside photocopying, and filing fees). What you do not pay for are the miscellaneous fees that other Hawaii law firms may add on to your bill.
a. Photocopying charges. Some Hawaii law firms charge 10 cents per page. We charge nothing for in-house copying.
b. Fax charges. Some Hawaii law firms charge $1 per page, even for local faxes. We charge nothing for domestic and international faxes.
c. Computer usage. Some Hawaii law firms charge for the time your document is being displayed on an attorney’s computer screen, whether it is being worked on or not. They argue they are recouping for the overhead in technology. We charge nothing.
d. Legal research on Lexis or Westlaw. Some Hawaii law firms charge for those search costs. We charge nothing.
e. Long distance telephone calls. Some Hawaii law firms charge for those costs. We charge nothing.
f. Secretarial time. Some Hawaii law firms treat their secretaries as billing entities so you pay for their time as secretaries. We charge nothing if they are just doing secretarial work.
g. Meals. Some Hawaii law firms charge you for their dinner if they work at night. We charge nothing.
h. Parking validation. Some Hawaii law firms charge you for validating your parking. We charge nothing.
We incorporate these miscellaneous fees into our hourly rate, as we feel they are basically standard overhead of our law firm. You know what you pay for when you hire us.
